WTC finals race: How England blew Pakistan’s chances and what Team India needs to do to stay in contention? | Cricket news

Team India has no choice but to play against an aggressive form of cricket bangladesh in their upcoming Test series for a spot in the World Test Championship final. The problem for India, however, is that there are major players injured at the moment, including skipper Rohit Sharma. Considering the depth the Indian side has, it won’t be a big deal to replace key players, but it is certainly a high demand from any cricketer to fill the boots of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and more. Heading into the WTC Finals Race and Standing, the final leg of the 2021-23 Finals has already begun. England damaged Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the WTC with their 26-run victory over the Second Test and Babar Azam-led side currently fifth in the points table. It was a run that Pakistan needed to win.

However, England won both test matches against Pakistan at their home. Now the upcoming test series between India vs Bangladesh, Australia vs South Africa and Australia vs West Indies will determine the two finalists for WTC Finals 2023. Currently South Africa are 2nd, Sri Lanka (3rd) and India (4th) in the WTC Points Table. (READ: KL Rahul’s CRYPTIC Response to Pujara as Vice Captain)

Having already lost the ODI series, the Indian team will need to win the next six Test matches (two in Bangladesh and four against Australia at home) to stay in contention for a top-two spot in the World Test Championship- points table. As of now, the Indian team is fourth with 52.08 percentage points, while Australia (75 percentage points) and South Africa (60 percentage points) rank first and second. Sri Lanka is in third place with 64 percentage points.

“There is a test championship (final) qualification, so we will also have to be aggressive. We know where we stand and what we have to do to qualify for the final,” Rahul said at a media conference after the trophy unveiling .

“Every day, every session we will assess what is needed for the team at that moment and do our best.”

The season-ending World Test Championship will be held at the Oval in London in June 2023. Flexibility in mindset is the order of the hour and a key recipe for success.

“We don’t go in with a set mindset. Yes, there’s a certain history of a venue, you look at the numbers and take some clues from that. At least for us, we go there and try to be aggressive and brave.” , try to get a result. The game is played over five days, so it’s important to break it down into smaller goals. In every session the demands are different, but one thing is certain: you will see a lot of aggressive cricket from our side,” the skipper assured.

Much of this talk of aggressive intent stems from watching the England team’s radically different ultra-aggressive approach, which has captured the imagination of cricket fans. And skipper Rahul doesn’t think the English style of batting characterizes “recklessness”. (with PTI inputs)
