Watch: Lara rolls back the years with stunning blows against Rashid Khan | Cricket

West Indies legend Brian Lara, who is currently in Australia as part of the broadcast team for the Tests between the two sides, showed he still has it in an incredible netting session against Afghan star spinner Rashid Khan. The Afghan player is in Australia for the Big Bash League, representing the Adelaide Strikers. The BBL season begins on December 13, and Rashid’s Strikers begin their campaign against Sydney Sixers the following day.

A brilliant spinner during his time as an active cricketer, Lara reminded everyone that he still has the same skills as he showed off a string of impressive shots against the current No. 2 T20I bowler in the world.

On two occasions, Lara, 54, produced brilliant foot movements to clear space for herself and deliver a superb square shot against Rashid. The Afghan spinner couldn’t help but smile as he watched the West Indies legend attack him years after the former retired from the game.

Speaking of bowling with Lara, Rashid said ahead of the net session that he was “super excited and nervous” to bowl for the former Windies skipper.

“It’s unbelievable,” Khan said, as quoted by FOX Sports Australia.

“As soon as I heard I was going to bowl for him I was super excited and also nervous. It’s going to be a different day bowling for me than someone like Brian Lara who is a great player in spin bowling. I think it’s going to be a big challenge for me.

“It’s not just about winning and losing, but I’m extremely proud to bowl for him.”

During the session, Lara got 12 runs to win an over against the star spinner; however, it ended in a draw with Lara demonstrating his shooting skills on both sides of the ground.

Lara commented on the session saying “It was a lot of fun. Low trajectory. I think maybe Rashid is not in great shape at the moment but it was just amazing and a privilege to meet the big man.”
