‘Suryakumar Yadav is exceptional in T20s, but Sarfaraz is in insane form’ | Cricket

Team India started ODI World Cup preparation on a positive note, completing clean sweeps over Sri Lanka and New Zealand in back-to-back series. The Men In Blue will now shift their focus to the T20Is against the Black Caps, starting Friday. However, the main focus for now remains on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will decide India’s fate at the World Test Championship (WTC). India is currently second in the WTC table behind Australia and a series win will help them consolidate a place in the top battle.

The team for the first two Tests has been announced and Suryakumar Yadav is also part of it. However, one name that BCCI did not consider was Sarfaraz Khan, and it has sparked a huge debate on social media. Sarfaraz’s disapproval came as a huge surprise not only to the fans, but even some ex-cricketers have expressed shock at his omission. The Mumbai batsman has a staggering record in the home circuit, having racked up over 900 runs in the previous two seasons of Ranji Trophy.

Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha shared his thoughts on the subject saying that Suryakumar deserved a spot in the red ball squad and stated that Sarfaraz will get a chance at the right time. “The way young talent Sarfaraz Khan is performing at the moment. I understand there is temptation and I think its time will come. But Surya deserves 100 percent to be part of the testing team,” Ojha commented while interacting with Aakash Chopra. Viacom18 Sports.

Ojha’s statement came in response to Abhinav Mukund, who felt Sarfaraz should have been given a place in the squad, acknowledging his heroics in the domestic circuit. “Why? Because why hold the Ranji Trophy? Why not reward domestic achievements? Sarfaraz Khan is in amazing form, at least I would have rewarded him with a cap for the Australian series. Suryakumar Yadav is exceptional in T20 format. They want the same kind of fighting spirit from him on the Test side. But unfortunately I’m the guy who follows the hierarchy and Sarfaraz should be there,” he had said.
