Spain vs Costa Rica, 2022 FIFA World Cup: Spain beat Costa Rica 7-0 | Football news

Spain defeated Costa Rica 7-0 in a dominant display of football in the opening match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday at Al Thumama Stadium. The Spanish team added four more goals in the second half of the game, piling up the misery on Costa Rica. Spain scored through Ferran Torres, Gavi, Carlos Soler and Alvaro Morata in the second half, establishing their authority over the Central American team. The Spanish team replicated their excellent first half performance as their opponents had no answer to their attacks, orchestrated by Sergio Busquets.

Due to superior play in midfield, Spain was able to create more scoring opportunities than Costa Rica, which was just on the defensive from the start. Speaking of the first half, Costa Rica looked helpless against Spain in the Group E game at Al Thumama Stadium, with the Spanish team leading the game 3-0 at the end of the first half.
The 2010 World Cup champions led the process against Costa Rica with goals from Dani Olmo, Marco Asensio and Ferran Torres.

Olmo finally scored in the 11th minute after sending his first try just wide in the opening minutes of the first half. After Keylor Navas managed to score a low cross from Jordi Alba, Asensio scored the 2-0. Spain’s third goal came from Torres who remained calm and found the back of the net on a penalty in the 31st minute. The match favored the Spanish team as they are ranked seventh, while Costa Rica is ranked thirty-first in the FIFA rankings.

Veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets called the shots as he controlled the ball and forced spaces in the opposing defence.
The Spanish team dominated from the start and kept a lot of possession. They controlled the ball superbly with their renowned short-passing technique, creating holes and making runs in front of the Costa Rican penalty area.

Costa Rica never seemed to recover from the attack and continued to chase the ball, unable to shoot the Spanish goalpost. Spain and Costa Rica have faced each other three times since 2010 and Spain have never lost a match. Won twice and drawn once, and the same would be at stake if the latter does not score quickly in the second half. The Spanish team is trying to forget the run of the last two World Cups. The team failed to make it to the knockout stage of the 2014 edition and finished in the group stage. It was eliminated in the round of 16 stages at the 2018 World Cup. Spain will try to forget the horrors of the past and turn a new page with a relatively young squad in the 2022 World Cup.
