The Capitals, who are part of a six-team tournament expected to play in January-February next year, have attracted explosive talent such as Rilee Rossouw, Jimmy Neesham, Adil Rashid and local hero Theunis de Bruyn.
The Pretoria Capitals, who had already signed ace-goers Anrich Nortje and Migael Pretorius, will have Head Coach Graham Ford, Assistant Coaches Jacques Kallis and Dale Benkenstein in the dugout.
Now that the dust has settled on the auction, Head Coach Ford said: “The auction was quite an experience, it was fun but stressful. I think at the end of the day we are quite happy with how things turned out. money we had, we did pretty well.”
Speaking of some of the big names on the squad, Ford said: “Rilee Rossouw has been fantastic over the past few years both internationally and at the franchise level. Left-handed batter who is very explosive and dominant. It’s a huge local asset and something to be very excited about. And then there is Theunis de Bruyn, who has done an excellent period at national level. They are two striking players.”
The Capitals batting coach Kallis, who is currently in India to play a legends tournament, believes the team has their bases covered. “We have a nice balance of experience and youth, some exciting players. We have a well-balanced squad and most of our bases are covered. I’m confident we have a good squad that can handle all the conditions. Be there in South Africa and be successful.
“Behind the scenes, the management and staff have been working hard on the squad. The boys are very excited about the players we have and are looking forward to starting the season.”
Talking about the coaching philosophy, Kallis said: “When you’re working with a team for a month or so, it’s very hard to make big changes and it’s more about giving us options and going through their roles, very clearly about that.” to be.
“For me it’s about learning as a team and playing some good entertaining cricket that the crowd will enjoy and people will come and watch. And most importantly have fun as teammates, and that’s when teams do well, when the guys have fun nice,” said Kallis.
During the SA20 that kicks off next year, the Pretoria Capitals will play their home games at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
