Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained most of their big names for the upcoming 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) with West Indian batsman Sherfane Rutherford being the only big name to release the franchise. The core team consisting of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, Wanindu Hasaranga, Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood has been retained. The party had previously traded Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff for Mumbai Indians. After qualifying for playoffs three times in a row, RCB have opted to count on their core players to win their first trophy, who were also able to gain support from youngsters like Rajat Patidar, Anuj Rawat, Suyash Prabhudessai and Finn Allen . The side still has INR 8.75 crore left in their wallet and two foreign slots to fill as well.
“Believe at the core! 12th Man Army, here are our retained Royal Challengers who will be part of RCB’s #Classof2023! #PlayBold #WeAreChallengers,” RCB tweeted.
In the 2022 Indian Premier League season, RCB finished fourth in the points table with 16 points and eight wins from 14 games. They qualified for playoffs but lost to Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator.
