Road Safety World Series 2022: India Legends beat England Legends by 40 runs in rain-stricken match

England Legends chased a huge goal of 171 runs in a game reduced to 15 overs per side, reaching 130 runs for the loss of six wickets. India’s spinner Rajesh Pawar was the star with the ball.

After the opening game between West Indies Legends and New Zealand Legends was canceled on September 21 due to the wet outfield, the threat of a washout loomed large in this game as well. But no rain after noon and the tireless efforts of the groundsmen paid off on Thursday and the competition was finally held.

The 25,000-seat stadium was nearly full as fans flocked to see Sachin Tendulkar & Co. played a game of cricket and they were not disappointed when Indian batters showed their batting skills. Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan and Stuart Binny played well with the bat and the former Indian cricketers put up a staggering 170 runs after being invited to bat first.

Tendulkar and Naman Ojha hit the ball across the ground to give their team an explosive start. At the front, Tendulkar went on the offensive during this period and the Mumbaikar crushed 38* of 16 deliveries. The master blaster attacked Chris Tremlett for two straight sixes and followed it with a limit to give a solid start in the power play.

After the openers were rejected, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan and Stuart Binny continued to score points at a brisk pace and India Legends placed 170 for six. Yuvraj and Yusuf stole the show with their great feats of arms and tormented every English bowler.

Later in the second innings, India’s former domestic cricket stalwart Rajesh Pawar returned with figures of 12 for three of his quota of three overs. The left-handed spinner – who has amassed 281 FC wickets – returned with figures of 12 for 3 from three overs and tipped the match in India’s favour.

Pragyan Ojha, Stuart Binny and Manpreet Gony each took one wicket and played a vital role in their team’s big win.
