Afghan all-rounder Rashid Khan has been appointed captain of the MI Cape Town team in the SA 20 League, while West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has been appointed captain of MI Emirates, which will compete in the ILT20 competition. MI Global announced both captains on Friday with a message from Akash Ambani, the owner of the franchises. “We are delighted to announce our captains to our extended MI Global one family for the 2023 cricket season. We have a great mix of talent, experience and passion in both of our captains. I am confident that Polly and Rashid will take pass on the MI ethos and MI brand of cricket, both of which will work with our outstanding coaching teams to infuse the MI spirit in MI Emirates and MI Cape Town and win the hearts of cricket fans in the UAE and South Africa ‘ wrote Ambani.

Rashid has never captained a team in franchise cricket and it will be the first time he will wear the captain’s cap in the league. Notably, he has previously captained Afghanistan. It was a short stay as leader, however, as he resigned over disagreements with management. On the other hand, Pollard is an all-time great with Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He has retired from the IPL and has taken up the coaching role with the same franchise as he said he did not want to play for any other side in the league.

He will be leading the MI Emirates side and while Pollard may not have led the Mumbai Indians in IPL in many matches he has been part of the leadership group and has also managed the West Indies in the past so the captaincy is not a thing completely news to him. Pollard and Rashid as captains is a brilliant move by the Mumbai Indians.
