Handing out batting masterclass against arch-rivals Pakistan at the 2022 T20 World Cup on Sunday, batting maestro Virat Kohli sealed one of India’s most famous victories over the Babar Azam-led side in the current edition of the showpiece. Kohli led the battle charge from the Rohit Sharma-led side, slammed his 34th half-century and saved India from a battle collapse against the Green Army at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Showing nothing but guts and determination, Kohli took the powerful Green Army bowling unit to the cleaners in the death overs. While Kohli anchored the chase, all-rounder Hardik Pandya played a crucial cameo as the Rohit-led Team India sealed a memorable four-wicket victory over Pakistan in their T20 World Cup opener in the MCG.

Reflecting on his batting performance leading up to the T20 World Cup, Kohli recalled going through a lean period as the batting icon struggled to form across all formats of the game. In conversation with Australian TV presenter Neroli Meadows on star sportMatch winner Kohli gave his fans and colleagues a special mention after playing a blinder against Pakistan.
“I mention the fans because I experienced this during the IPL when I was down. And the way people cheered and supported me. And also the players of the other teams. They wanted to see me do well, which is a very special feeling and that’s where I felt like you know I could do justice to the opportunity God gave me. To play at this level and it has affected people somehow. That’s why the very organic connection is also there with the fans and the players,” Kohli said.
Kohli hit 82 from 53 balls while India outclassed Pakistan by 4 wickets at the MCG. The 33-year-old surpassed Indian skipper Rohit to become the leading go-getter in the game’s shortest format. The batting icon also sewed the 113-run partnership with Pandya, which is also the fifth highest score for the 5th wicket or lower in T20I cricket.
