Indian star wicket-keeper and batsman Rishabh Pant was brutally caught on Wednesday (November 30) when he scored another poor score in the third ODI between India and New Zealand in Christchurch. After New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bowl first, India got off to a slow start and soon lost both openers – Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan. Rishabh Pant came in at number 4 and spent 16 balls before going on 10 runs. His knock included only two boundaries. After another failure with the bat in this series, fans of the Indian cricket team started brazenly trolling him on Twitter.

With Samson sitting out, the fans feel the Kerala batsman is being sacrificed as Indian team management blindly trusts Pant. The fact that Pant continues to pull a long rope despite failures and Samson has not angered fans. Pant has not made as much of an impact in white ball cricket as he has in test match cricket. He had a good run in England in the summer of this year, but since then Pant has failed to live up to expectations.
Pant played a few matches in the T20 World Cup but failed to deliver the goods. He has also had back-to-back failures on this white ball tour of New Zealand. In addition, Pant made the squad for Bangladesh’s ODIs but not Samson. The fans feel that Samson is not treated well in the Indian team and he deserves more chances than Pant. It will be interesting to see what the new set of selectors think and if this fan feedback will be taken into account.
