‘I’m hoping for an India A call’: message from IPL star to selectors | Cricket

The ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier 50-over tournament in the domestic circuit, has seen some great performances so far. Narayan Jagadeesan dominates the batting lists and has scored five hundred in the competition so far. Among bowlers, speedster Kuldeep Sen is the most successful. The pacer has so far scalped 17 wickets from six appearances and is currently the leading wicket taker.

Another player making big strides in the league is Riyan Parag of Assam. The all-rounder impressed with impressive performances as Assam qualified for the quarter-finals on Wednesday after a 25-run victory over Delhi.

Parag has notched two tons and a half century so far and is equally effective with the ball. His barrels came against Rajasthan and Sikkim as he went on to scalp two wickets in the three overs against Meghalaya.

In a recent interaction with Sportskeedathe jack-of-all-trades opened up about his ambitions to play for India.

“I think I’ve had a good Syed Mushtaq Ali and I’ve had a decent Vijay Hazare – with both bat and ball. If we (Assam) can win the quarter-finals, make it to the semi-finals and the final, some guys can get a call-up to India A or something like that. Because we never qualified, our names didn’t come up. So this time I might hope for a call for India A, and the one for India in the near future,” Parag said.

Parag’s comments come at a time when Team India is looking for an all-rounder, who can strike late and explode instantly. He has served in a similar role for Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals in recent years, but has yet to make a major impact.

Parag has played in 47 IPL matches so far, collecting 522 runs with a batting frequency of 124.88. He has scalped four wickets with the ball so far.
