If you think Babar, Rizwan has been the problem: ENG legend targets critics | Cricket

After a string of low scores, Babar Azam expressed his authority with an impressive 110 not-out knock, in just 66 deliveries. The Pakistani skipper, along with Mohammad Rizwan, also closed a record-breaking opening grandstand when Pakistan crushed England by 10 wickets in a high-scoring encounter in Karachi on Thursday night. The pair added 203/0 in 19.3 overs in response to England’s 199/5 in 20 overs, helping Pakistan make a strong comeback from defeat in the series opener.

Of the 203, Rizwan chipped in with 88 from 51 balls, an innings with five 4s and four 6s. Pakistan’s strong performance came at a time when the team was heavily criticized for its recent failures, with Babar and Rizwan especially pointing fingers.

Many had criticized Rizwan for his slow hitting speed, despite being the lead go-getter in the recently concluded Asia Cup, where Pakistan finished second. Babar, on the other hand, faced a rare lack of form, but his captaincy had also come under scrutiny after the Asian Cup final defeat to Sri Lanka.

Impressed by the show Babar and Rizwan put on Thursday, former England captain Nasser Hussain hit back at critics. “If you think Babar and Rizwan have been the problem… you really haven’t looked in the last few years!!” the ex-cricket player tweeted Thursday evening.

Babar went into the game with just 98 runs in his previous seven T20Is, including 68 runs in the six Asian Cup clashes. He scored 24-ball 31 in the series opener on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rizwan had also scored half a century in the previous match, which England won by six wickets.
