Ex-KKR batsman backs AUS star to become most expensive player in IPL 2023 auction | Cricket

Four-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended their 11-year partnership with veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, while Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) released captain Kane Williamson on retention day for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. With IPL teams making notable changes to their roster on retention day, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra expects franchises to break the bank at the mini-auction.

After all 10 teams shared their respective retained player lists for IPL 2023, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman took to Twitter after all 10 teams backed Australian all-rounder Cameroon Green to emerge as the most expensive purchase on the mini auction. Chopra has also backed England T20 World Cup hero Sam Curran to become the second most expensive pick at auction.

“Green as the most expensive player. IF he puts his name in the auctions. Sam Curran will be the second REALLY expensive choice. Stokes should finish third in the overseas category. The dynamics of auctions are strange and can be surprising, but this should be the order of preference,” Chopra said in his tweet.

The former Indian cricketer and full-time cricket pundit believes Mayank Agarwal, who has been rejected by the Punjab Kings, will become the most expensive Indian player in the mini auction. Indian opener Agarwal was released by Punjab Kings on retention day. “Mayank Agarwal becomes the most expensive Indian player on the 23rd. Three leggies – Mayank Markanday, Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra should spark interest. Klassen, Reeza Hendricks and Rilee Rossouw should get decent traction as well,” Chopra added.

Agarwal, who was appointed as the captain of the Punjab-based franchise for IPL 2022, was detained by PBKS for INR 12 crore ahead of the mega auction last year. The Indian opener was one of nine players released by Punjab Kings ahead of the mini-auction. The Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings hold the second largest purse (INR 42.25 crore) for the upcoming IPL 2023 auction.
