Cristiano Ronaldo looking for new club after leaving Manchester United | Football news

LONDON: Cristiano Ronaldo is looking for a new team after a tumultuous few hours at Manchester United in which they announced the superstar was leaving and the club could be sold.
The seasoned Portuguese striker paved the way for his departure from Old Trafford last week with a candid interview on TalkTV, saying he felt “betrayed” by the club and had no respect for the new manager. Eric ten Hag.

There was clearly no going back for Ronaldo and United issued a statement on Tuesday confirming they were parting ways with one of the greatest players in their history by “by mutual agreement, effective immediately”.
Ronaldo, currently at the World Cup in Qatar, released a statement of his own declaring his love for the club, saying it “feels like the right time” to look for a new challenge.
The 37-year-old not only lashed out against United and Ten Hag, but was scathing about the club’s unpopular American owners in his interview with Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo said the Glazer family, who saddled the club with massive debt when they bought it in 2005, cared more about United’s money potential than results.

Hours after the statement confirmed that Ronaldo would leave the club, United issued another bulletin saying the Americans were considering selling.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who played alongside Ronaldo at United, said both sides had got what they wanted.
“Cristiano clearly went into that interview thinking he was not happy and wanted to leave the club,” Ferdinand told the BBC. “He made that very clear.
“I think that Erik ten Hag also got what he wanted in this situation. Both parties are happy and we can move on.”

The problem for Ronaldo is that leading English and European clubs chose not to move for him in the summer transfer window, despite his desire to leave Old Trafford.
They’ll probably be even more wary now that they’ve witnessed his erratic behavior.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who recently scored his 700th club goal, is a waning force, but still has a huge reported weekly salary package at United of around £500,000 ($595,000).
He has reportedly held talks with Bayern Munich and has been linked with an emotional return to Sporting Lisbon, where he progressed through the youth academy.
Ronaldo said he was offered a two-year contract worth $360 million by a Saudi Arabian club and insists there is interest from top European clubs.
If a European party does not come along, a move to the United States is an option.
The Portuguese star made a name for himself in his first spell at Old Trafford, evolving from a raucous but wonderfully gifted teenager into one of the world’s deadliest forwards.
He won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with United, but left in 2009 after six years for Real Madrid, where he became the club’s top goalscorer and won the Champions League four more times.
Ronaldo spent three years at Juventus from 2018 before making a sensational return to Manchester last year.
But he joined a club that had long since lost its top dog status in England and has been trophyless since 2017.
Ronaldo finished third in the Premier League goalscoring chart with 18 goals, but has been a peripheral figure this season, scoring just three times in all competitions.
He was recently chastised for refusing to come in as a substitute when the relationship began to unravel.
The World Cup, where Portugal kicks off its campaign against Ghana on Thursday, is undoubtedly Ronaldo’s last chance to win the trophy and crown a glorious career.
It could also be his last chance to show that he can still perform at the highest level.
