CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat on January 25 criticized the alleged stone bullets at JNU students. She said that in India, the prime minister’s praise was okay, but his criticism was not. She questioned the functioning of democracy under Prime Minister Modi’s regime. She said: “There is no legal restriction on this BBC documentary on Prime Minister Modi and if anyone wants to watch that documentary then that is their right. Whether it be a university they don’t have the authority to prevent students from watching it . Someone’s praise is okay, but their criticism is not. We claim to be the greatest democracy in the world.”
