Sensex wins 145 points, handily over 18,300; Tata Consumer gains 2%

Sensex Today: Domestic stock markets opened higher on Thursday as global equities rose after the US FOMC report indicated a moderation in the monetary policy tightening cycle.

Global signals

Globally, US markets rose overnight as growth stocks took the lead. Dow Jones, the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite indices rose to 1 percent.

The strength also spilled over into Asia-Pacific markets, as major indices such as the Nikkei 225, the S&P 200, Topix, Kospi and Hang Seng rose to 1 percent.

In terms of commodities, oil prices fell after G7 countries weighed in on the price cap on Russian oil and higher US crude inventory data. Both Brent Crude and WTI fell 0.2 percent to $85 a barrel and $77 a barrel respectively.
