Pakistani police take six donkeys into custody for help smuggling wood

Donkeys seem to live a comfortable life, unhampered by human concerns or crimes. In an unusual case, police in Pakistan arrested six donkeys for facilitating the country’s timber mafia. According to a report by Urdu News, six donkeys have been taken to the police station in the Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in connection with timber smuggling. While the suspect managed to escape in the case. However, the donkeys were taken into custody.

The incident took place on October 18 when forest rangers and the district administration arrived in Darosh Gol to catch the smugglers. The said suspects, who are also carpenters, managed to escape leaving the donkeys behind.

According to Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune, in September an employee of the Omer Shah forest department and his partner Imran Shah (checkpoint guard) who were arrested while smuggling valuable timber from the forest into the Makhnial area were officially suspended by Divisional Forest Officer Haripur Farhad. Ali.

According to the media house, Omer stole and sold the valuable wood from Deodat and Genus Abies, with the result that the forest not only led to deforestation, but also caused losses to the forest department.

But what’s even more amazing to know is that the six donkeys will be presented to the court by the forest department.

Deputy Commissioner Darosh Tauseefullah said they received information on Tuesday evening that wooden sleepers were being loaded onto donkeys and smuggled into other villages. As soon as they arrived, the accused fled into the forest, but the donkeys left behind were taken into custody. “Timber mafia agents use donkeys to transport timber in storm drains,” he added.

The assistant commissioner also revealed that the forest department had been ordered to take the six donkeys to court.

It is not the first time such an incident has come to light from Pakistan. In 2020, Pakistani police arrested a donkey for participating in gambling in Punjab province. The incident was reported from Rahim Yar Khan City, where officials seized eight people and a donkey for their alleged involvement in a gambling race. An official report was also drawn up against the donkey named as a suspect.
