As General Qamar Javed Bajwa retires next week, Lieutenant General Asim Munir has been appointed as Pakistan’s new army chief after days of speculation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday appointed Munir the new chief of the Pakistani army. Munir, a four-star officer, served as a quartermaster in the Pakistan Army before being appointed as the army chief. Lieutenant General Munir joined the army after completing the Officers Training School program at Mangla and his first commission was in the 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in September 2018 and was subsequently assigned as DG ISI.
