Indian stock indices extended their gains for the eighth consecutive session on Monday, led by strong auto and metals stocks coupled with good corporate earnings for the second quarter for India Inc. At 9:42 AM, Sensex was trading at 59,854.76 points, up 23.10 points, or 0.039 per cent, while Nifty was trading at 17,749.35 points, up 18.60 points, or 0.10 percent. Stock indices rose during the favorable hour of Muhurat trading on the eve of Diwali as Sensex rose 562 points to 59,869.22 and Nifty50 rose 157 points to 17,733.40 on Monday. The special trading window marks the beginning of Samvat 2079 and asset buying is considered favorable on this day. “The early months of Samvat 2079 are likely to be highly volatile with alternate periods of selling and buying in the US parent market, which will impact other markets, including India’s,” said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.
