The headmistress of a government school in Perundurai near here has been suspended for having students clean the institution’s toilets, police said on Thursday.
According to police, one of the six students developed a fever after cleaning the toilets, as he was reportedly bitten by mosquitoes during the task he was supposed to perform on Nov. 21. which instructed the Ministry of Education to take action in this regard.
An investigation was subsequently launched. It revealed that the six had been instructed to clean the two toilets, one used by teachers and the other by students.
Later, the education department ordered the director to appear before it, but she is said to have gone into hiding. Meanwhile, the mother of another student reported the incident to the police. A case has been registered. A search is underway for the hiding school principal, police added.
