The interior ministry said there was an explosion in the Afghan capital on Friday afternoon after a loud explosion was heard in a heavily fortified central part of the city.
It was not immediately clear who or what was behind the explosion, which was confirmed by Interior Ministry spokesman Bismulah Habib.
Several deadly explosions have taken place at mosques during Friday prayers in recent months, some of which have been claimed by Islamic State.
A Reuters witness heard the explosion around midday prayers in Wazir Akbar Khan, an area of the capital that was once the city’s ‘green zone’, home to many foreign embassies and NATO and now controlled by the ruling Taliban.
