Police sources said Islam was detained because he threatened “some organization with consequences if they prevent him from watching the film”.
Even as the nation went berserk over Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’, Safidul Islam from Assam’s Dhola in Mangaldoi district was unable to watch the film despite having 120 tickets. Rode? The police picked him up at 9:30 am and released him at 5:00 pm on the condition that he would report to the police station daily and not leave the station.
“We intended to watch the film, but saw it as a challenge when a certain organization threatened to do so. We, the members of the Northeast Minority Students Union (NEMSU), brought 120 tickets. If someone obstructs or taunts us in the theatre, we are not responsible for the consequences,” Islam had said on the day he got the 120 tickets for the show.
However, on Thursday, the day of the film’s release, the story took a turn. The 27-year-old has been arrested. “I can’t talk, the police say it’s for my own good,” he said hurriedly.

Recently, Bajrang Dal members had stormed a cinema hall in the city, tearing down and burning posters of the film.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had then taken to Twitter and said he had assured the Bollywood superstar that the state government will ensure law and order when the film hits the silver screen. Meanwhile, all sensitive theaters in the state were secured to ensure smooth screening of Pathaan.
