Marvel’s Armor Wars series is being turned into a movie: Report -Newzflash

Armor Wars is reportedly being turned into a movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios will now redevelop the upcoming Don Cheadle-led Disney+ series into a feature film fit for the big screen. The Marvel Cinematic Universe show was in early development, with the studio eyeing a production start in 2023. But this move essentially delays the title further down the MCU production schedule. THR’s sources claim the change was made to tell the story “the right way.” This may also have something to do with the upcoming Secret Invasion series leading directly into Armor Wars.

It turns out that Marvel originally planned a series to fully flesh out the character of Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine. But midway through, they realized that a feature film adaptation would be the right fit. Cheadle (Boogie Nights), who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with Iron Man 2 – replacing Terrence Howard (Prisoners) – will reprise his role in the upcoming film. Yassir Lester, who served as the creator and head writer of the Armor Wars series, remains the writer for the film adaptation. There is currently no word on an attached director for Armor Wars.

According to THR, the crew preparing for a 2023 production schedule was notified of the change in direction just this Thursday. Currently, there isn’t enough information about the plot, although Cheadle did appear with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige during Disney’s D23 Expo earlier this month. At the time, the pair unveiled an Armor Wars logo for what was then billed as a six-episode series.

Armor Wars originates from a number seven Iron Man storyline running from 1987 to 1988. Written by David Michelinie and Bob Layton, the comic series worked around the idea of various suits of armor falling into the wrong hands. The Disney+ series was created to address the aftermath of Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) death in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

This wouldn’t be the first production shake-up at Marvel Studios in recent memory. Late Wednesday, Bassam Tariq, director of the upcoming Mahershala Ali, directed Blade film confirmed his exit from the project. He will now serve as an executive producer on a troubled MCU film that has reportedly seen its schedule change several times. According to insiders Jeff Sneiderlead Ali is “frustrated” with the film – a script that is only about 90 pages long and has two “blank” action sequences.

There is currently no release window for Marvel’s Armor Wars. The MCU movie calendar is packed to the rafters – the only slots available right now are February and July of 2025 and February, May, July and November of 2026.
