The release date of Randeep Hooda-led CAT trailer has been announced. Netflix revealed Thursday that the trailer for the Punjab-set spy thriller series will drop tomorrow ahead of its December 9 premiere. Created by Balwinder Singh Janjua (Saand Ki Aankh), it follows Gurnam Singh (Hooda), a former police informant who is called in to infiltrate a large drug empire, all while trying to rescue his misguided, drug-dealing brother. Janjua writes and directs some of the episodes, described as a “pig story about brotherhood, espionage, power and more”.
CAT marks Hooda’s series debut and second collaboration with Netflix – following 2020’s Extraction, in which he starred alongside Chris Hemsworth. The studio gave a sneak peek at CAT last week, where he was joined by Suvinder Vicky as a senior officer discussing the state of drug trafficking in Punjab and how it all leads back to Gurnam’s unnamed younger brother (Danish Sood). When asked to rejoin the police as an informant, Gurnam is seen panicking, which is in line with the plot description from Netflix’s online-only TUDUM event, which mentions dark traumas that Gurnam has kept hidden.
At that time, the studio also revealed the cast of CAT which enlisted Hasleen Kaur (Karle Pyaar Karle), Geeta Aggarwal (Chhapaak), Dakssh Ajit Singh (Arsho), Jaipreet Singh (Sacred Games), Sukhwinder Chahal (Mirzapur), Pramod Pathal (Mirzapur), KP Singh and Kavya Thapar (Ek Mini Katha).
“With the pace at which our industry is releasing content, it’s very easy to get lost in the crowd, but with an industry giant like Netflix supporting my passion to create a series with a subject so close to my heart, I feel truly blessed and lucky,” creator Janjua expressed in a prepared statement, having lived through the wave of drug trafficking in the 2000s. “And having the opportunity to work with an exceptional artist like Randeep Hooda is the cherry on top.”
The month of December on Netflix opens with the Triptii Dimri starrer Qala, which follows the eponymous playback singer struggling with an identity crisis at the height of her success. The psychological drama with a musical twist is directed by Anvitaa Dutt, best known for Bulbul.
Before then, we have the crime-drama series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter in Bihar on November 25 with Karan Tacker and Avinash Tiwary on opposite ends of the law.
CAT will be released on December 9 on Netflix. All sections will be available at once.
